Why I Love The New York State Fair

While the start of the Great New York State Fair means the end of summer (which is so very depressing), once it starts to get close to the time of the fair, I get excited to go. A lot of people go to the fair for a variety of different reasons: they may go to the fair to see the dairy building’s butter sculpture, or to go into the different buildings and look through what all of the different vendors have to offer. A lot of people go to the fair to ride the different rides (but I refuse to go on any rides because my mom always warned me and my siblings of the risks of going on a ride that was put together in two days—which is a great point if you think about it).

For me, I love the fair for just one reason: the food. There are so many different stands at the fair with different kinds of food, and I. Love. Food. This is not news to anyone that knows me. I go to the fair solely to eat the food. Once in a while I’ll go to the Chevy Court concerts (if someone really good is performing), but I’ll most likely be eating food while listening to the music. Eat dinner before going to the fair? Absolutely not—the fair is my dinner.

My go-to food at the fair (if we’re talking about real food and not a treat) is a wrap from the “Wrap-It-Up” stand, even if the wraps a little over-priced (but what at the fair isn’t over-priced?) I never go to the Tully’s stand (because I’m not big on the tenders, and I can go to the Tully’s right down the street from my house whenever I want), and sometimes I’ll find a stand I’ve never been to and get some food there, but normally I just stick to my wrap, because I already know that I’ll like it, and you can split it with someone if you want because they’re huge (but I usually don’t ever split it). I also love the lemonade from the stand in the African Village area (trust me—it is to die for, and it’s the best lemonade I’ve ever had)

Even though I love a good wrap at the fair, the food that I really love when I go is the bad-for-you, good-for-your-taste-buds food. And no, I don’t get the glazed donut cheeseburger, or the fried Oreos. What I do get is the pizze fritte from The Villa (any other fried dough at the fair is just not worth your time, or your money). No matter how many times a year I go to the fair (whether it’s once or seven times), I always, always, always have to get the pizze fritte every time I go.

So whatever reason you love going to the fair, make sure you go around and take the time to eat the amazing food that the Great New York State Fair has to offer, because it really is the best part.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
