Photography is such a great way to capture precious moments of our life that we can hold on to for years. One of my favorite kinds of photography sessions is taking photos of couples. Photographing couples is a bit more difficult than photographing individuals. When photographing individuals, you can follow certain posing rules to make the subject look their best. While you still need to keep these rules in mind when photographing couples or groups, you also need to consider their interaction with each other. Because, what's the point of photographing couples if you aren't photographing them as a couple?!

There is something about the way they look at each other that melts your heart. It's not fake, it's not just posing for the camera; it's real.

There is a sense of innocence in their eyes. Young love. They have so much to learn, and they find adventure in it. Cheeks blush easily, stares are held until they're caught, light-heartedness is visible.

They're proud to show each other off. They found their other half, their missing puzzle piece and they want the world to know.

I tell couples many times to pretend that I am not there. It usually works to bring their focus on each other, and some of the focus off of me. You want them to act naturally towards each other, and interact how they normally would on a daily basis.

Who doesn’t like a good love story? If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a whole photo session with a loving couple is like a romance novel. My job as the photographer is to make it a good one.
