New semesters excite me. I can learn new things and meet more interesting professors. I can finally forget about that bad test grade that haunted me the entire last semester.
Syllabus week is the first week of it all. You can sit in an unknown classroom surrounded by other students, some you might not know yet, and listen to the professor talk about the upcoming weeks. It is the easiest week, and I enjoy it. The first week of the semester is not filled with class assignments, tests, and deadlines; syllabus week is all about becoming exposed to the new class.
Beginning a new semester is equivalent to wiping your slate clean. Yes, your GPA remains, but the new semester is your fresh start. The old professors and dreadful tests are gone. The first day of the semester is the beginning of a new chapter. You can make this semester anything you want it to be.
The semester beginning is a reminder of what you are working towards. After a break, you are back to pursuing those goals and receiving an education. This beginning is a reminder of the excitement that lies ahead.
Here’s to second semester.
