As a senior in high school, I had no idea where I wanted to attend college. I was bombarded with the question, "Where are you going to school?" I, unfortunately, could not answer that until a few months before my high school graduation. Of course, I had big dreams of going to my huge dream college, but that didn't happen for me. Now that I have found my home at my small college, I wouldn't trade it for the world!
While many people regret going to a small college, I do not. There are many perks of going to a smaller school. One perk of going to a small college is that you know almost everyone. If you are involved a lot on campus you meet a lot of people, which you then see everywhere around campus. You can always go somewhere and see at least one person you have met before. You can find someone to walk to class with no matter what time because you develop close relationships by attending a small school.
Another reason why I am so glad I chose to go to a small college is the smaller class size. When you go to a larger, more well-known school, your class size is bound to be gigantic. I love that I attend a smaller school that allows me to have an average class size of about 40 people. It is even rare to have that large of a class. I am grateful for my decision to have smaller classrooms that allow me to really engage in the class and feel like I am more than just a number.
One last reason why the small college life is the life for me is because financially, I would not be able to afford anything more. I know there are many opportunities for scholarships and things of that nature, but if I would have chosen to go to a larger college, I wouldn't have been able to do much of anything. Since I am attending a smaller school, I am able to go do many new things such as attend trips with the organizations that I am involved with.
Although we are small, we still struggle with parking due to the small campus size and limited parking spaces, however, it is much better than the parking situations at larger colleges. Smaller campuses also have their issues but I would choose it over a larger campus any day. Growing up, I had always envisioned walking around a huge campus and being stuck in a class of 200 people, but now that I have seen the advantages of attending a smaller college, I would not change my decision one bit. I have made some of my closets friends through my decision to go to a small college and am so glad I am able to walk around campus and see familiar faces every single day.
