Why I Love Love Your Melon

It's more than just beanies.

Why I Love Love Your Melon
Dani Courtney

I love Love Your Melon. And I don't mean actual melons (that's a completely different story). Love Your Melon is an apparel brand that donates half of its profits to non-profit organizations dedicated to fighting pediatric cancer. Though this company is slowly and steadily gaining popularity, it's still relatively unknown. I think it's about time that changed.

This is why I love Love Your Melon.

Love Your Melon looks good.

I'll admit it, I've never been a fan of hats. However, Love Your Melon has broken me down. Their assortment of beanies, from cuffed to pom, is adorable and pretty much come in any color you can think of. Not only that, they also sell baseball caps, headbands, blankets, and more. You could probably walk around dressed only in Love Your Melon gear and I wouldn't even judge. Their products are cute enough to get away with it.

Beanies are given to the people who need them the most.

This whole project started because the creators, Zachary and Brian, wanted to help make life a little brighter for all of the children battling cancer. They created a beanie that was gentle enough for a child who has lost their hair and began sending them out through representatives and campus crews. To this day, Love Your Melon has given away over 120,000 beanies and even allow people to request a hat through their website.

The money is donated to the organizations that need it most.

Not only has this company given away thousands of beanies to the children that need them, they have also donated almost four million dollars to several non-profit organizations dedicated to fighting childhood cancer. Some of these organizations include Be The Match, St Jude's Children Research Hospital, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. For every item bought, Love Your Melon donates 50 percent of the profit to these and other partners.

They make sure every superhero has a little adventure in their life.

While all of the money donated to this cause helps fight pediatric cancer as a whole, Love Your Melon also wants to focus on the children themselves. Love Your Melon has changed so many children's lives and turned them into superheroes. These children are brave and foster unbelievable strength and courage. They deserve to feel special and that's what Love Your Melon does. Superhero adventures were created to let kids have the perfect day, the goal is as simple as that. From going to a Minnesota Wild game to riding in a helicopter, each child gets to have the day of their dreams.

and finally, Love Your Melon let me be a part of something bigger than myself.

So yes, I love Love Your Melon. I love how everything they do, they do for the kids. But the thing I love the most is that they let me be a part of making a difference. All across the United States, Love Your Melon sponsors Campus Crews. These are groups of college students that come together to uphold and spread the Love Your Melon mission and values. I feel very lucky to be a member of the Campus Crew here at The University of Alabama. Though I've only been here for one semester, I have already done so much. We have held several swab drives, partnered with Be The Match, in order to sign people up to donate bone marrow. We have also sent homemade birthday and Christmas cards to some of the children. However, this semester we are thinking big and aiming for a hospital visit. It would be so rewarding to actually interact with the children and see their smiles as we give them their beanies. After all, that's what it's all about.

I'm sure, like me, many of you received lots of gift cards over the holidays. After working retail seasonally, here are a few tips that I learned in order to make the employees at your favorite store just a little happier and not want to charge you extra on your purchase for being awful. Here are some times when you should be nicer to retail workers than you actually are!

5 Untold Struggles Of The Short Friend

I'm the Short Friend. I've been the Short Friend since about the seventh grade. I'm the one who stands in the front of the photos, gets made fun of for their height, and still shops in the kids department.

This article is not for the Almost Short Friends, i.e. the 5'3" and 5'4" Friends. No no, this is for the Actually Short Friends, i.e. the Barely Scraping 5'1" and shorter Short Friends.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
