"Unless you change and become
like little children, you will never enter the kingdom
of heaven. Whoever becomes like little children is the
greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And whoever welcomes a child
like this in my name welcomes me."
Mathew 18:3-5

I didn't always want to be a teacher, but I have always loved kids. I've always felt so natural and so comfortable with kids. Not everyone likes them, but kids have so many things that adults don't. My love for kids has led me to my career path, and I couldn't be more excited. Here are just a few reasons why I would much rather spend my days with kids and not adults.

1. Kids have beautiful imaginations.

Kids have an impeccable ability to be creative, something that most adults lose through age. One minute you are pretending to be a mommy, and the next minute you are a cow in a field moo-ing for grass! If adults dig deep inside of themselves they could bring out this amazing imagination that forever keeps you busy and your creativity blooming. Creativity and imagination are what make us all individuals; without it we all become very similar and very structured. Kids, on the other hand, can be, and will be, whatever or whoever they want!

2. Kids have giant hearts!

In this society there are so many stereotypes, expectations, and pressures on people to look a certain way, act a certain way, or be a certain way. But, kids love everyone. As long as a kid is treated with love, he or she will love you back. Playing with someone isn't hindered by the color of their skin, the way they are dressed that day, or the way they fix their hair. Kids don't look at someone and automatically judge them; kids just want to make friends and play. This is a type of love adults can't quite acquire. Having a love for anyone and everyone! Kids will have friends of all shapes and sizes!

3. Kids don't hold a grudge.

Once a kid learns the words, "I'm sorry" they are actually pretty good about using it. And after something has happened, they will always forgive and forget. The next day they are all over you with their love again. Adults can go years without an "I'm sorry," let alone even speaking to the other person.

4. The smallest things can bring them the biggest joy!

Kids find joy in the small things in life. It is exciting to them to just go to the grocery store, or find a flower, or even just eat a piece of chocolate. It's so amazing that it doesn't take much to please them. Adults get greedy, only wanting more and more. But just a day outside is enough to make a kid's day! Things that are simple and fun become dreadful or boring to adults.

5. Kids say the darnedest things.

Spending a day with kids is never dull! They say things that you would never expect. They speak their mind, and more times than not, its pretty funny!

I've never understood how someone could dislike kids. Sure, they have grumpy days, and sure, they can be loud. But so can we as adults. The difference is, kids continue to stay pure, they find happiness easily, always forgive, and love everyone. Those are all things the bible aspires for us to be as humans. If children can do it, then adults should be more like children! Also they are just so cute, how could you resist!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
