9 Reasons I Love Dogs More Than People

They may not be our forever, but we are theirs.

People can hurt you, use you, ignore you, leave you, and a million other things that tear your heart up inside, but dogs will never do anything to hurt you in any way. Dogs just want our love and attention, and honestly, they're so easy to entertain and love. They just look up at you like you're the greatest thing in the world, because to them, you are! So here are a few reasons why I prefer my dog babies over actual human beings:

1. They never judge you.

Whenever I am being weird, stuffing my face with food, walking around the house without pants on, or just looking rough as hell, my dog never judges me. In fact, most of the time, my dog is right beside me just letting me do my thing. She even encourages me to stuff my face, because she knows I can't avoid her puppy dog stare, so when I eat, she gets a little something too.

2. They are great listeners

People get tired of listening to you rant about the same things over and over again, but dogs don't! They just sit there and listen to you rant on and on, and they'll tilt their head to the side as if saying “No way! She did that?” Or their ears will stand up or flop over like “And then what happened?” But no matter what, they are there for you when you need someone to talk to.

3. They know when you're upset

It's almost as if they have some sort of sad monitor inside of them, and whenever you're down, it goes off and they're right beside you giving you cuddles and kisses and just trying to make you feel better. They always know how to make you feel better, whereas with people, they sometimes just don't want to deal with you when you're upset.

4. They are always ready to party

Dogs are so easily hyped up! You get up and start dancing and call them over and they're right there with you trying to have just as much fun as you are! Just talking to them in a higher voice than usual gets them excited.

5. They will never leave you

Dogs are so loyal and you never have to worry about them getting tired of you and leaving because it'll never happen. You are their home, and they don't want to leave you.

6. They miss you when you leave

They get upset when we leave them, even if it's just for an hour. But when we come back, it's like we've been gone for days with the excited reaction they give us!

7. They will never hurt you

Dogs will never hurt us. They are incapable of hurting us because when we hurt, they hurt.

8. They don't mind your endless selfies

At least I don't think they do! They might get annoyed, but they'll still pose or lick your face or smile for the camera when you're wanting more pics.

9. They will always love you

Dogs' love for us is the purest form of love you will ever receive in your life. They may not be our forever, but we are their forever. They love us so unconditionally and so much. It's no wonder they earned the nickname as “Man’s (and Woman’s) best friend.” Because everything they do for or with us is always out of love for us.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
