There are certainly many reasons why being a nanny is the best job for a college student. The greatest reason however, is not the money (although that can be quite lucrative), nor the flexible hours, but the bond you share with a young child.
Being a nanny gives one the opportunity to be a "mom" but without many of the serious responsibilities. Yes, you do need to keep another person safe and protected, but essentially, your job is simply to play with and better the childhood of what in essence is your surrogate child.
Most of my fondest memories exist in my childhood and it's a rewarding experience to be a part of someone else's childhood as not necessarily a disciplinarian, but a friend.
As a nanny you become someone else: an adventurer, an explorer, a comedian, or even a play toy. Whether it's dressing up as a princess or pretending to be a monster, you always know how to make your little person laugh and giggle with delight.
Being a nanny also gives you valuable experience for the day you yourself become a mom. You will always remember the bedtime rituals, favorite foods, and continually replayed cartoons when you have a little one of your own.
"Again! Again! Again!" This one word will drive you up the wall but to see the look of merriment on their faces after being tossed in the air 11 times never gets old. Activities and questions are typically repetitive toddlers, but you'll soon notice that your patience is expanding and the more you entertain the "but why?" the less they tend to ask. As a nanny, you are a teacher, a second mother, and a walking dictionary, always ready to take on the many inquisitive inquiries of the hour.
You will never forget the nicknames they gave you or the silly songs they sang. Most importantly, you'll never forget the great hugs and the genuine warmth and love radiating from each one. In fact, you will probably never meet a truer person in your life than the one whom you nanny.
Although one day your little friend probably won't remember you after you are long gone, you will always cherish the memories you created with them and be grateful for the valuable lessons they have taught you.
