Why I Love Being Home From College

The comfort of your own house will always be there

Whether you're home for a break or you visit home quite frequently, like myself, there is always something to enjoy about being home from college. As great as college can be, there is nothing like being at home. Although things may feel different, the comfort of your own house will always be there. These are some of my favorite things about being home from college.

1. Not having to jump into your bed

Being forced to make a running jump into bed is not something I enjoy doing late at night when I am tired and want to go to sleep. Once the lights are off and the room is dark, this is an even more difficult situation. While not everyone's bed is abnormally high, mine is. The top of my mattress comes up to almost my chest, and I am almost 6 feet tall. I know that I can lower it, but where would I fit all of my stuff?

2. Being able to sleep in your own bed

Speaking of beds, there is nothing like your own. Those dorm mattresses are definitely nothing near comfortable. It's nice to be able to wake up in the morning feeling well rested.

3. Real food

There is just something about a home cooked meal that is so amazing, even if it really isn't all that great. Practically anything is better than dining hall food. Home cooked meals feel like 5-star restaurants compared to the school's selection. If you go to a small college, you know that the variety is not that diverse. Being home gives you an endless selection of food that you want. The stove and oven quickly become your best friend if you only have access to a microwave at college.

4. Showers that aren't repulsive

Using a shower stall with other people's hair all over the wall is like going through an obstacle course. There is not enough space to be able to avoid every wall at the same time. Getting changed in the stall after the shower is another interesting scenario. Being able to shower in your own house is something I definitely took for granted.

5. Not having to use a public bathroom

This is another thing I took for granted. Public bathrooms are the epitome of disgusting. After living in a dorm with community bathrooms, you really learn how gross people can be. From the unflushed or clogged toilets to the ramen noodles (or other unknown foods) in the sinks, you really feel sorry for the janitors who have to clean them.

6. Being able to see your pets

I know I am not the only one that misses my pets when I am away at school. Seeing my dog is one of my favorite things to do when I come home. I always take an endless amount of pictures of her so I can always see her when I go back to school.

7. Seeing friends and family

Although you may not see your friends as frequently since they are away at school, it is always nice to get together when you can. Being around your family and friends helps you to remember why you are at college in the first place. You really learn to appreciate the relationships you have with your loved ones once you don't see them every day.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
