Most people look forward to Fall for the following reasons:
1. Sweater weather
2. Changing leaves
3. Halloween
4. Pumpkin spice EVERYTHING
While I love every one of these things, and am extremely looking forward to the fall season for those reasons, there's one understated reason that I do not think I appreciate enough but is equally as rewarding: I won't get SUNBURNED.
Summer is amazing, with the great weather, trips to the pool and no school. However, with all that great weather, free time, and a skin tone that rivals that of a baby, a sunburn is bound to result.
There's several levels of Sunburn.
1. The "Oh, is that a sunburn?"
This sunburn is the one you get if you forget to reapply sunscreen just that one time, so you are pretty comfortable but your skin is just a littleee pinker than usual. You are aware of the fact you got sunburned, but it doesn't really affect your life all that much.
2. The "I definitely got sunburned today"
This is when you are not burned to a crisp, but you are definitely aware of the fact you got sunburned and you are dreading the time of day you have to take a shower (if you are a sunburn veteran like me, you have learned to cringe at the term "shower" or "bathing" when you are sunburned). And that is DEFINITELY a burn line.
3. The "I'M A TOMATO"
This is pure hell, my friends. You're having a great day out in the sun, and when you get home, you realize that you put on sunscreen only one time (if that), and then you immediately regret everything. For me, the sunburn usually doesn't set in until the next day, but with this stage of sunburn, it's almost immediate--you can physically feel your skin radiating. You look like a lobster, clothes are the devil's spawn, and even thinking about moving hurts. That one great day you had at the beach all of sudden kicks you in the ass. Hard.
Sadly, I have reached all three of these stages countless times throughout my life, and I can tell you that each of them suck in their own way. While I love summer for many reasons, because of the fact I've never experienced the glorious world of tan lines (only burn lines) I can't say I'm sad to see the hot weather go away for a little bit.
Of course, by the time it's February I will be hoping for the hot weather again, temporarily forgetting the pain I experienced the last summer. However, for the time being, I'm going to look forward to the apple cider, sweaters, and the fact my skin will stay its normal, ivory color.
