20 Reasons Why I Look Forward to Fall All Year Long

Fall is hands down the greatest time of the year. It's sad to see summer leave, but the arrival of fall is worth the wait. Here’s why fall is clearly better than the rest of the seasons:

  1. It’s time to wear boots. This means you can go buy cute boots at the mall and not feel too bad about it. It's really the only time you can wear fashionable boots before it starts to snow.
  2. The weather. It’s perfect for sweaters and scarves, but you don’t have to wear a bulky coat quite yet. It's not exactly cold yet, and you can still get away with wearing a fall dress.
  3. Bathing suit season is over. I can go back to eating chocolate again.
  4. Apple cider. My personal favorite. This is when grocery stores start selling it by the gallon, which means I have to stock up. My day can't start without a glass of apple cider.
  5. Fall clothes. Layered fall outfits are a must-have, which is just another reason to go shopping. You start to spend hours on Pinterest obsessing over all the perfect fall outfits.
  6. Bonfires. Which includes s’mores too, because a bonfire is simply not a bonfire without s’mores. Marshmallows and chocolate can never disappoint.
  7. Halloween. The one night you can wear whatever you want and not be judged. Everyone looks forward to this night all year long.
  8. Donuts. It seems like there’s more donuts around during fall, especially apple cider donuts. Donuts become the go-to breakfast choice...and dinner choice.
  9. The leaves. Everything looks ten times prettier. The trees completely transform, and you are reminded how beautiful nature really is.
  10. Baking becomes fun again. The yummiest recipes are for this time of year. Everyone suddenly loves to bake cookies this time of year, but the best cookies are the sugar ones sold in tubes at the store that have some sort of Halloween character on them.
  11. The smell of the air. The crisp smell of fall is unmistakable. The brisk air returns and you're reminded that the weather is changing.
  12. Thanksgiving. The best holiday of the year because the food never stops. Plus there's Black Friday shopping immediately after, which the most exciting night (and morning) of the year.
  13. Hot drinks. It’s the perfect time for hot chocolate, especially with a touch of whipped cream. Now you have an excuse to carry around that adorable thermos you've been waiting to put to use.
  14. Pumpkin carving. No matter how disgusting it is, it's always fun. That feeling of satisfaction after carving the perfect pumpkin is priceless.
  15. Less bad hair days. There’s less humidity, so your hair looks so much better. Plus you can wear a hat and nobody thinks twice about it.
  16. Corn mazes. These are great but also utterly terrifying. Nothing screams fall like a good corn maze does.
  17. Halloween candy. You can eat as much as you want, and you don't have to feel bad about it. After all, chocolate is happiness.
  18. Cinnamon everything. Candles, drinks, desserts….everything. Fall is not fall without something cinnamon sitting in your apartment.
  19. Movies. I love the fall movies that come on, namely the Halloween Town movies on Disney Channel. I’m not ashamed one bit.
  20. Caramel apples. Best combination ever. It's simple to make, and so delicious! You can't go wrong with caramel.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
