Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
People always say that long distance relationships never work out. You're too far away from each other. You rarely see each other. It's almost like a relationship with your phone. FaceTime, Skype and texting can only go so far. It's hard to live in the present moment when the other half of your heart is so far away. We tend to listen to what other people say and let them scare us out of even trying a long distance relationship. My advice is don't let people scare you from trying a long distance relationship because trying a long distance relationship has been one of the best decisions of my life.
Would you rather have a boyfriend close by who treats you like shit then have someone who loves you and respects you thousands of miles away? Would you rather have a random hookup that's fun in the moment that leaves you feeling used, worthless, and sad as you wake up alone the next day when the guy doesn't give two shits about you?
Being in a long distance relationship isn't easy, that's for sure. I believe that when it's the right two people, it can work. It takes patience, sacrifice, trust, communication, and balance. It's nice to have new places to visit, someone to support you while at a different school, receiving letters/packages/mail and having your own space. You get to focus on your friendships at school and focus on bettering yourself. You grow together despite the distance and if anything the distance strengthens your relationship. Being in a long distance relationship is essentially saying, "I love you... You are more than WORTH the distance."
