Kanye West and Taylor Swift have had bad blood since 2009 when he took the mic from her after she was announced the winner of the “Best Female Video Category” at the MTV Video Music Awards. The feud was put to rest after he realized his mistake and Taylor forgave him with her song, “Innocent." But apparently, the situation was not put to rest because Kanye re-ignites the feud, starting the rivalry all over again. Kanye released his new song “Famous” at the Yeezy Spring 2016 Fashion Show. One of the lyrics in the song states, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that bitch famous.” I'm sorry Kanye, but you are very, very mistaken. Here are the reasons why Mr. West is so wrong about claiming he made Taylor famous.
1. If Kanye wants to claim that he made Taylor famous, did he forget why she was up on stage to begin with?
Taylor was awarded the “Best Female Video” for a reason. Maybe that reason was for the winning song, “You Belong With Me” to go 6 times platinum and having the title of being one of the best-selling singles across the globe. The song was also nominated a Grammy Award for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Female Video. Long story short, Taylor must have done something right.
2. Her accomplishments take over the music industry.
Even before the recognized interruption, Taylor was nominated for New Female Vocalist of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, and Album of the Year by the Academy of Country Music Awards. By the American Music Awards she was nominated for favorite Country Female Artist. For the BMI Country Awards she was awarded the winning song for “Tim McGraw,” “Our Song,” and topping it off with song of the year for “Love Story”. In total, Swift has received 248 awards from 537 nominations. She has received 10 Grammy’s, 19 American Music Awards, 22 Billboard Music Awards, 11 Country Music Association Awards, 8 Academy of Country Music Awards, 10 People’s Choice Awards, and 25 Teen Choice Awards. I'm sorry Kanye, but can you say the same?
3. Fan base.
Taylor Swift was just crowned the most followed person on Instagram beating Kim Kardashian and Beyonce. She recently reached 60 million followers. So clearly, she is definitely liked. Never the less, Swift has the capability to sell out basically every stadium at her tours. Her fans range from boys to girls across the globe. I don’t recall seeing adolescent girls and their families at a Kanye concert…
4. That speech.
Swift remained silent after the lyrics of “Famous” were made public. But, four days after she used her Grammy spotlight to remain the bigger person and instead of back-lashing at West, she made a beautiful and uplifting speech. "As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammy's twice, I want to say to all the young women out there: there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame,” Swift remarked. "But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you’ll know it was you and the people who love you who put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”
