Why Joining Odyssey Was One the Best Decisions I Made in College

In my younger years of college, I often found frustration when it came to social media. I would always find articles circulating through Facebook, Twitter, or even Pinterest and think how liberating it would be to write so freely about topics that were currently discussed. I often contemplated creating a blog, but I wanted to be apart of something bigger than that. I didn't just want to write for me and about me, but for others and about others as well.

It wasn't until my sophomore year of college where I was given the opportunity to become a part of an involved community dedicated to contributing to the discussions and debates among millennials, and that is with Odyssey.

I still remember the day that I received the text from my current editor, Jessica, months ago. I was so ecstatic to have the opportunity to express my opinions and views while becoming a part of a team and representing my school.Since joining Odyssey I have not only been able to express my voice but become apart of something much bigger, which is a team. I am so proud of my editors and team of fellow writers and all the work they put into their articles. Everyone is so supportive with one another and give nothing but positive energy when it comes to writing. We are able to take our passion and influence those around us. By doing this we are not only able to write for ourselves, but others as well. It is because of this that I strongly urge fellow students, regardless of class, to make the same decision I did and become something bigger and join Odyssey, where you not only become apart of a team but gain a family as well.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
