There are many things to do in college, and having too much free time could be disastrous. Clubs and hobbies in college help keep you from going insane. College is a time in which stress could be around every corner, but there are some ways to keep you busy. For example, I am a part of the Odyssey (obviously), Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, and the SVSU Forensics team. These three organizations help me when the stress of college gets too intense and give me a way of expressing myself at the same time.
Being involved on campus can help your resume when it comes to getting a job because it shows that you are actively involved and at least somewhat social. Companies like seeing something like that, just a little advice for you.
Being a part of on campus clubs and organizations can also help you come out of your shell. In high school, I was a very shy guy just trying to find that one thing to help me be who I am today. There are also some amazing people that you can meet. Shout out to my editor-in-chief for the Odyssey, Abby Engel. She's pretty cool and one of the hardest workers I know. From TKE, shout out to Kofi Yeboah for being the first nephew of Ghana. Lastly, to Cody Bromberg for being a funny guy and keeping Forensics lit.
There have been many people in my college career that I could thank and who have changed my outlook on the true college experience. Without joining any of these, I feel like I would have just gone to class and waited to go home on the weekends. I am truly grateful that I have these people in my life and am glad that I met them.
One thing that helps to be active on campus would be by meeting these people, odds are they have taken a class that you are possibly struggling with. This is a plus because you could be a Communication major having trouble in Bio, and by getting in touch with those people, you could easily get help. I was having trouble with a couple of classes and my fraternity brothers tutored me. There are so many people with different majors that you will get to know, and you can get help from them. Also, being in organizations helps when you need information about future classes, such as which professor to take and what time of day would be best.
I am truly grateful for the people in my life who have been by my side, especially those organizations I am a part of. There have been many times in which my fraternity brothers have helped me keep my grades up, as well as the social aspect of my life, so props to them for keeping me around. Thank you, everyone, and I can't wait to see everyone after the break!
