College is easily one of the most stressful times in someone's life. The amount of responsibility, work, and stress that is placed on a single person are astronomical and sometimes it can be just enough to make you crack. So why then do we put ourselves through it? Because we know that in the end, it is going to pay off. However, in order to make it to the end, I firmly believe that there are times when you need to take a day for yourself and just relax. That being said, as I sit here watching Harry Potter with my friends instead of doing homework, here's why I think it's okay to take a day off every once in a while.
Early classes, long days, homework, quizzes, and exams.... all of these things can make for an extremely stressful week. Multiply this type of schedule by 16 and well, let's just say you are going to fall apart both physically and mentally. How then does one ensure that they can make it through an entire semester without completely falling apart? By taking a day off!
You see, back in high school, weekends were the time when we could do nothing all day and it wasn't that big of a deal. But for some reason, coming to college changes that idea and weekends become basically an extension of the week, where we continue to do homework and study all day long so we are prepared for the next week. Personally, however, I think that weekends in college can still be just like weekends in high school. I see nothing wrong with taking one day during the weekend and taking time for yourself.
A relaxing day is the best day because it gives you the time to reboot your body, replenish your biological clock and relax your mind. Taking one day to sit around and watch movies isn't going to be the end of your academic career. Taking a day off can help your academics because it gives you a fresh look at things when you are ready to pick up your books again. A fresh mind is a great mind!
So, take my advice and put down the books, close your notes and pop in a movie. Kick back, put your feet up and don't worry about your classes for a while because I promise you that when you get up the next morning, you are going to feel much better about yourself and you will have a whole new motivation to open those books back up and get to work
