At the age of 18, we're asked to pick what we want to do with the rest of our lives. We're asked to decide the first semester of college what we want to do everyday for years to come. That can be a scary thing to have to decide right away.

But, we try our best to decide anyways. We enroll in classes hoping that things go well and that we're happy with the decision we made. Here’s the thing though, we aren’t always happy with those decisions and that's OK.

Chances are you will change your major at least three times in college. Not only are you discovering and changing yourself, you are also figuring out what you truly want to get out of life. You are deciding who you want to become and that plays a huge role in what you choose to do. You are discovering everything you want to accomplish while having no idea how to do accomplish those things - but that is OK.

It is OK to be afraid of the future. It is OK to be scared of the unknown. If we knew the end result of everything, if we knew what would happen if we made certain decisions, then we would never make mistakes. We would never learn from those mistakes. We would never be able to change and grow from those mistakes.

It is OK to be afraid of the future. Here is a secret, everyone else is too. Everyone is scared of the unknown. We never want to mess up or do the wrong things, but sometimes we do. Every decision we make will lead us to where we need to be at the right times. So there is no need to fear the future.

The path along the way to your future is what makes the future so exciting. It is figuring out the journey along the way. You will experience so much more joy when you set your fear of the future aside. You will love more, learn more and grow more. Once you realize it is OK to be afraid of the future, you realize it is OK to live in the moments and to enjoy them.

If you are afraid of the future because you don’t know what you want to do with the rest of your life, then relax. You will figure it out. If you are afraid of the future because you are afraid you wont fall in love, relax. That special person will walk into your life at the right moment when you need them most.

It is OK to be afraid of the future. However, it is not OK to fear the future so much that you forget to live and love in the present. We have to pay attention to the things that are happening around us now. If we fail to do so, then we will miss out on so much.

“Don’t let the fear of what could happen make nothing happen.” – Doe Zantamata

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
