There aren't many things I remember from my childhood. That was a long time ago and honestly, most things before I was twenty-one-years-old, I try to forget.
I was a homeschooled, Bible college attending, only child who was the brunt of most jokes from people outside my family's close circle of friends. I was often be the bullied pushover kid, before bullying was something everyone did. One thing I remember with fond memories from way back when is Chick-Fil-A!
I grew up in a low income family. We didn't have a lot but we had love and people loved us so people made sure we never went hungry. On occasion, we'd have an extra few dollars to go through the drive-thru at our favorite Alabama Chick-Fil-A! I always got a six piece kids meal with sweet tea or lemonade and honey mustard sauce. It was my go to. As I got older, I discovered the sandwich meal and their infamous slaw (may it Rest In Peace). Y'all, I was a fan - as a lot of people in the south are. As the chain has spread around the country, other people are discovering how amazing the Atlanta based quick service chain is.
I got my first job four months after I turned fifteen and it was at, you guessed it... Chick-Fil-A! I worked there for a year and a half. This was way back before iPads were invented to make it possible to take orders outside, before WiFi was a thing people could afford, when minimum wage was still five dollars and some change an hour and before Chick-Fil-A sauce was invented. I know. Terrifying, isn't it?
It had been eleven years since I had worked at Chick-Fil-A when I returned for a full-time position this year. A new city, newly married, why not try something new-ish?!?
I say all of that to say this... When you go to Chick-Fil-A, or anywhere for that matter, you don't know the stories behind the people that work there. For some people, it's only a job but for some people, it's their childhood or their career goals. For me, it's a joy! I have a lot of fond childhood and high school memories from Chick-Fil-A and now, I am making a lot of memories with my husband (who also works at Chick-Fil-A), in a new city, making new friends while trying to be a blessing to the people of my community.
Even on tough days. Even on happy days. It is honestly, my pleasure to serve you!!!
