Have you ever walked by some one and you made eye contact with them? During that exchange of eye contact you give a subtle nod, or a casual wave....
and they just look at you like this.....
Why is that? It has happened on more than one occasion. Why do people choose to stare and say nothing. At times I think well maybe it is me, and other times I think, Well what a bunch of JERKS!
I remember a time I had just gotten back from class, it was already incredibly hot outside, but I decided to hold the door for this female. Now mind you the female was waaay behind me, but I myself decided "Hey I'm going to be a gentlemen", sparing my own ego for a second. You know what happened? As soon as she got up to me, she looked at me and kept walking.
Now what is wrong with that picture?
She looked at me....knowing I held the door for her, yet insisted on not saying anything. People are something else...
I even did constructive research when it came to a topic like this, there was no way in phrasing what a was trying to say. I don't think nobody really knows why certain individuals act the way they do. There is no statistic that can measure how this comes to be.
I guess one thing I can say is that, maybe they were having a bad day? That's one of the reasons I can say, but even then I still don't see it.
No one has an obligation to say "hello" back to a person, but it is considered common courtesy. Some people will just stare at you like you did them wrong, and I don't know why.
Even if they were taught to never to speak to strangers, saying hello isn't some asinine thing, it's completely normal.
Here's a word of advice to all my non-speakers, speak up sometimes. The people that don't speak, I feel as though they are always angry. I would speak to people, you never know who you could come across. Just a simple "Hello" can go a long way.
Take my advice, I wouldn't lead you down the right path.
