1. You're much closer to home
Although some students revel in the fact that they can finally leave home and feel freedom, going to an in-state college can actually be nicer. Since your home is close, you can always pack up head there on the weekends. Not to mention, you can always get a home-cooked meal for the trip back to college.
2. It's much less costly
Let's face it, out-of-state colleges are much pricier. While they do offer financial aid, it may not be feasible for everyone to afford the fee. In comparison, in-state tuition is much cheaper so it's not putting a strain on your wallet. It's important to save money wherever you can in college and tuition is a huge way to save.
3. You already know the area
A big pro of attending an in-state school is that you know what you're getting into. Since you've grown up in the area, the weather, demographics, and current trends will all be familiar to you. You'll be comfortable in the sunny weather of the south while you're friends who decided to go to Minnesota for college are freezing in negative 30 degrees. Knowing the area and the feel of the college can be a major advantage as it'll allow you to focus on other areas of college life.
4. Your friends are going to the same college as you!
Most of your friends and people from high school will likely be attending your in-state college. You won't have to be a loner at school seeing as you'll see at least one familiar face on campus. So you'll have 'built-in buddies' and maybe even roommates.
5. You know the best places to visit in the state
Living in-state can give you the chance to share all the best places to visit in your state. You'll know all the fun places to go, the restaurants with the best food, etc. You can even make it a road trip with you being the tour guide. You might discover some new places in your own state.
