Learn a new language

Learning a new language definitely is not easy. Although, the best way to learn is to practice, and the best way to practice is to speak with the locals. You will be amazed how much quicker you will pick up a language when you are forced to use it while immersed in a different country, rather than learning from a textbook in a classroom. Next time you go out to dinner while traveling, try ordering in that country’s official language, you might surprise yourself.

Step out of your comfort zone

It is normal to feel nervous if you are about to embark on an adventure and travel places you know nothing about. But that is what makes the whole experience worthwhile. You will begin to grow as a person as soon as you start taking risks. Have no expectations and just go with the flow, you will not be disappointed.

Meet amazing people

Some of the best people I have ever met, I met while being abroad. When you meet people during your travels you will create so many different bonds. It’s so interesting to learn about different people from around the world, because everyone was brought up differently. Nothing is better than sharing great memories with great people.

Try delicious food

We all know food is delicious, and we all love it. While traveling, food is one of the best things you will experience. Every country has foods that are unique to them, some may be amazing and some you may not like so much, but at least you tried it! Having an open mind about different foods will help you appreciate and enjoy the local cuisine that much more.

You will look at the world differently

There are so many different cultures, religions, foods, and languages on this planet, and I don’t believe you can fully appreciate that unless you have seen or experienced it. Once you have come home from you travels you will begin to appreciate all the little things that make a person different. You may or may not change in a dramatic way, but you will begin to view life differently and be a more well-rounded individual.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
