After reflecting on my almost two years here at Lycoming College, I’ve noticed myself growing more and more thankful for this school. From the professors, students, and friends, I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else. Here are only some of the reasons I will forever be thankful for my time at Lyco!
1. The beautiful campus
Now, friends, if you’ve never laid on the hill by the quad during sunset, you are most definitely doing college wrong. That, combined with the trees in the fall, makes getting up and walking to class a little more tolerable.
2. The small class sizes
I think that honestly, the biggest class I’ve had here is 30 people. My graduating class is not even 400 people. That is most definitely smaller than even the classes at my high school. This makes it very easy to get to know your peers, and your professors. When I walked into class the second or third week or school, my professors already knew my name. I see my friends in the caf and around campus all the time.
3. The short walk to classes
I think it takes me less time to get from my dorm to my class than it ever did going class to class in high school. This makes it very convenient when I press the snooze button one too many times.
4. The Traditions
Being a small school, we have some traditions that will always be here. On our first day of freshman year, the entire class walks through gates at one end of the campus, and then at Commencement we walk out the gates on the other end. We also have other special traditions here such as the Christmas Candlelight service, Snowden’ till 2 (A time when the professors come to the library before finals week to review with students), Homecoming Week activities, and many more. I look forward to these with each year that comes.
5. Greek Life
I never envisioned myself in a sorority, and now I can’t see myself without it. Greek Life at Lyco is pretty different than other colleges. Our chapters are small, ensuring that you are friends with your entire sorority or fraternity and gives you the chance to bond all together. I would not trade my sisters for anything.
6. The town of Williamsport
The Lyco community absolutely has different views on this. Some people love Williamsport; others think its too small. I personally have grown fonder of this town the more time I spend in it. From the great coffee shops, to the boutiques, to even just the people I’ve met through my church, I think Williamsport is a vibrant little town in the heart of PA that is just right for college students.
7. My Friends
Thank you, Lycoming College, for giving me my best friends.
