Why I’m Obsessed With My Finsta
How Stuff Works

For those of you who don’t know, a “finsta” is a funny or fake Instagram account. No, you don’t take a new identity, it’s an account where you get to mess around and voice your inner thoughts. Instagram has some unwritten rules to it, some people say you can’t post twice in one day, or ‘does this go with my aesthetic,’ as silly as that sounds, every area has their own unwritten rules. The beautiful thing about finsta is that there are no rules! You get to choose who follows you, what you post, when you post it, and say what’s really on your mind. Some of you may say, “you can do all of that on your regular Insta,” and while some of you may, finsta is totally different.

Finsta is the place to post your gross selfies, upload a million pictures in five-minutes, rant about your day and truly let your freak flag fly. Instagram is a place where people share your special moments or cool things you do, pictures are “artsy,” whereas with finsta you can post little life updates that have no relevance to your follower’s day but you do it anyways!

Some people don’t understand the concept of “finsta” or think they’re stupid, but honestly they’re hysterical. You get to see the honest side of people that they don’t usually share on their other accounts. Your finsta fans are a closer knit community of people that you want to share every piece of your life with. Scrolling through my feed never fails to make me laugh because I’m constantly surprised with the stupid and hysterical things the people I follow do on a daily basis.

And I’m not the only one… I asked some fellow finsta lovers to complete this sentence: I’m obsessed with my finsta because:

“I'm obsessed with my finsta because I can post whatever ugly or funny pictures I want, as much as I want. I can post 12 times in a day if I feel like it!! And, the best part is that a finsta is 100% judgement free.” –Olivia Lein, 16

“I’m obsessed with my finsta because it’s a place where I can share my stupidity with everyone and what I think is hilarious.” –Grace Johnson, 18

“I’m obsessed with finsta because it's a place where you can be yourself and not care what other people think of you and post whatever you want” –Sophia Mazzei, 15

“I'm obsessed with my finsta because it allows my followers to see the true me” –Madison Sheinker, 18

“I'm obsessed with my finsta because it's basically one big group chat where you're the star!!” –Jackson Cianculli, 17

Do yourself a favor and join the finsta fam! I promise, it’s something you won't regret.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
