Dachshunds are kind of my thing. Back in 2009, my family and I were sitting in Taco Johns when I managed to convince my dad to adopt another dachshund. This was not an easy task, and it actually took years. But when my grandma called about a puppy that her neighbor's dog just had, my siblings and I were finally able to push my dad over the edge. After a three and a half hour drive to McCook, Nebraska on November 17, 2009 we finally had our weiner dog.

We named him Frankie because we're just super creative, and from that day on I've been obsessed. Here's why:

1. He is a diva.

He can't speak out loud, but his sass says it all. Frank is a dra-ma-queen. And I absolutely love it.

2. Snapchat filters on him are never disappointing.

Snapchat filters aren't designed for pointy-faces, I totally get it. But that doesn't mean I can't at least try...

3. He feels the pain of shortness.

Because of our mutually short legs, I feel we relate on a whole different level. He is me in dog form.

4. He really knows how to relax.

If you start to pet him, he will basically melt into the surface he's laying on. Cue the layers upon layers of chins!

5. When he gets tired, he looks like Snoop Dogg.

Just before he's about to close his eyes, he has this moment where he zones out and looks just like Snoop Dogg when he squints his eyes. Do you know how many Snapchat opportunities you have when your dog looks like a tired-famous-rapper? A lot.

6. He looks like an actual hot dog.

He occasionally tucks his feet completely under himself and looks like a straight-up piece of sausage.

7. He won't complain about my Netflix choices.

He will never get annoyed with endless episodes of The Office, so I feel no judgement.

8. He make's dinosaurs cute.

...for like 2 seconds. Then he ripped the costume off.

9. He's even photogenic in his sleep.

I feel like even dogs would notice if their tongues were drying out in their sleep, but this is a regular occurrence for him.

10. After all that, he still wants to be around me.

Even when I bother him with a million pictures and jokes at his expense, he still wants to hangout with me just about always.

I think the obsession is mutual.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
