Growing up with cats my whole life, I never learned to appreciate their calm and passive personalities. My sisters' and I would beg our parents for a dog (and still do) because cats get boring and don't show nearly as much affection. But after dog sitting for two weeks, I came to the conclusion that I'm really not a dog person, and here's why.
1. They bark at everything (excessively)
7 a.m. freak outs from the dog when the garbage truck passes is definitely not my idea of an alarm.
2. They lick everything
Stop it dog, that tickles!!!
3. You can't leave them alone for more than a few hours
And if you do, they'll leave you little gifts around the house... Yes dog, I missed you, too, but I don't appreciate stepping in your pee when I walk into my kitchen.
4. You have to apologize when your dog jumps up and scratches a passing stranger
Surprisingly, not everyone wants to pet your poodle...
5. I can never give them as much love as they'll give me
No matter how long you leave them in the kennel or if you're too lazy to take them outside, dogs have an unconditional and nonjudgmental love for you. They bark and cry and scratch but all they want is your attention. With cats, you can leave them be for hours and days and they won't be fazed. A dog wants and needs your constant attention but only because you're their entire world. They don't know a life without you in it. Dogs are a universal figure of love and loyalty; no human can care for another nearly as much as your dog can. I am not a dog person because I don't feel that I could ever give them the time and affection they deserve.
