Before you even go to college, you see posts all over social media saying “FTK” and “DM,” but what do these letters stand for?
FTK= For The Kids.
DM= Dance Marathon.
I am a freshman here at the University of Florida, and have not yet participated in Dance Marathon, but I can already say that I am FTK. There is a common link for all dance marathons across the country, and this is FTK. On March 24-25, I will hopefully get the opportunity to stand on my feet for 26.2 hours in order to benefit the patients of UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital here in Gainesville, Florida.
Each year, over 800 students, based upon fundraising, get to stay awake and on their feet in order to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. My organization specifically, has been raising money for two children named Jude and Oliver. Looking at young children makes you think how happy you were at one point in your life, without a care in the world. Giving children a good life and happiness is something that has no price tag, it is something that all children deserve, as no child deserves to fight through huge battles at young ages. Why do I want to dance for 26.2 hours? For The Kids. Am I even close to a good dancer? No, but bad dancing saves lives. We all must be bold and join the movement.
Yes, maybe I have posted FTK or DM on my social media accounts one too many times, but these posts have meaning and purpose. The difference you can make in a child’s life by participating in Dance Marathon is something that cannot be put into words. It is truly remarkable how we as students can make such a big difference in a child’s life.
Why am I writing an article about Dance Marathon? Because Dance Marathon needs you, and you probably need Dance Marathon. Help brighten someone else's life while brightening your own.
Let’s be FTK together.
Help DM reach their goal to help the children. This is For The Kids.
