Being a woman is hard. Point blank. It may not seem that way to the naked eye, but us women work very hard day in and day out. Whether it is coming home to a family, working multiple jobs, going to college, or running your own business, us woman deal and put a lot on our plate. I am not saying that we can’t handle it all–because we most certainly do--but after I read a few articles and heard the controversy about Alicia Keys’s No-Makeup movement and saw how people were bashing her for not wearing makeup at the VMAs I was seriously appalled. I was completely at lost for words and honestly I was in awe.

I fully support and stand by Keys on her #nomakeup movement, because think about it. She is a very successful woman in our country that has impacted the music industry in many ways and is now inspiring people to feel more comfortable in their own skin without wearing makeup. How is that a negative? For those of you who have not followed her movement since she began it a few months ago, Keys is not against wearing makeup, she actually loves makeup as she said on the TODAY show. Women constantly feel that they have to keep up with society’s standards in order to “fit in.” How ridiculous is that? I mean come on. If you are someone who feels more confident wearing makeup, then do so. Don’t let society make you feel that you shouldn’t wear it. For those of you who also agree with Keys and feel more confident without wearing makeup, then don’t.

I am not against the usage of makeup, just like Keys, but I feel that if you chose to not wear makeup, you shouldn’t be looked frowned upon. Society says that we must act, be, look, and talk in a certain way to “fit in”. That is where I think that this is a very important lesson for woman to understand, rather than look at the #nomakeup movement in a negative aspect. If you are more comfortable not wearing makeup, then don’t. Don’t just wear it because society says you should and if you do like wearing makeup don’t listen to all the magazines and critics etc, telling you that you shouldn’t. It shouldn’t matter what society thinks, just as long as you feel beautiful and confident in yourself. Wearing makeup and not wearing makeup is beautiful. Just because someone doesn’t agree with you and your makeup choice doesn’t make your choice wrong. Wearing and not wearing makeup shouldn’t be a debate and it shouldn’t be something that society feels the need to determine what is right or wrong. YOUare the one that should determine that for yourself.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
