My One True Love: Dogs
Zayrha Rodriguez

I’m that person that anywhere I go, I have the need to point out every time I see the dog. It does not matter if there are miles away. Every time I’m walking in the street and I see a dog coming my way, I hope I’m cool enough to be sniffed by the dog. Every time that I see a dog lost or just lonely, I have the urge to just take it home and pet him (My dad has made it very clear that I cannot arrive home with a dog). Every time someone asks me whether or not I want to have kids, I answer with, “Puppies count right?” If you were to ask me why I like dogs too much, I’ll probably answer by making a really high pitch noise and saying something like, “They are so cute!!!!” (Yes, all those exclamations marks are needed).

I don’t remember any exact point in life that leaded me to say, ”This is why I love dogs so much!” I’m just being a lucky person to always have a dog around. When I was little, both of my grandparents houses at least had one dog. At one point my paternal grandmother had three dogs in her house, two labradors, and one miniature poodle. Also, my one of my cousins’ house had another miniature poodle. I used to spend all of my time with my grandparents and with their dogs. I remember being afraid of the labradors because they were as the same height as me, but I still would try to pet them. Yet, I never had a dog at home.

When I was age 10, my dad decided to adopt a puppy golden retriever, who we named Thomas. He was the cutest little ball of fur going around and bitting and eating everything that was in his way. Thomas would bite so much that I will never get close to him because he like to bite my ankles for some reason. At side from my ankles, he like to bite any shoe and heels from my mom, socks and some furniture.

He slowly started to grow up and mature. He not longer is that little ball of fur that used to fall down the stairs, and I’m not longer the little girl that cries because her puppy bite her (In my defense those teeth are very sharp.) Now, I’m 19 years old, in college and planing to transfer next year to a university nowhere close to my now home. In the other hand, Thomas, while he still like to take socks and and bite some shoes, he is 10 times the size he used to be and he has some whiter hairs in around his mouth and eyes.

Growing up with a dog as left me facts that make dogs the best friend anyone can have. They do not need thousand of material things to be happy, they just need love and a lot petting behind the ear to be happy. In return of their steadfast loyalty, they ask for attention and care when they are sick. No matter how many times you are mad at them, they will always received you with wagging tail and sloppy kisses. They do not care about the drama of your office or school, they care that you are okay and if you can play with them.

For me, dogs are one of the most pure and innocent animals in the world. There are no bad dogs just bad humans. Dogs will one to the end of the world and back to make sure their family are safe and okay. I get really excited about dogs, because I just want to give back a little bit of the happiness they have brought me in my life.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
