If for some bizarre reason you’ve never been to a festival and always questioned what the hype was about, I suggest you watch “Under The Electric Sky” on Netflix and then immediately purchase tickets to an upcoming festival this rave season. You’ll thank me later.

Going to a festival transports you into a whole other world, an entirely new dimension. Every single person walking around those festival grounds is there with one purpose in mind; to let go of all of their worries and absorb the music and bass through their pores. There is no sadness. There is no pettiness. All judgement is left at the entrance, and you will meet some of the most down-to-Earth people. This is what makes you feel like you’re in another dimension, everyone is genuine, and all they want to do is feel the music and to have a good time.

The best feeling from a festival is being able to wear absolutely anything you want, dance however you want, sing at the top of your lungs, and not have one person look at you twice. Festival goers are all about the saying, “PLUR,” which stands for Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect; that’s exactly what you’ll find amongst every single person. Everyone is accepting, no matter how you look, how you dance, or how you talk. It’s exactly how peaceful the world should be, and it’s the perfect environment in which to thrive.

The memories you make at festivals are the types of memories you’ll never forget. They’re the types of memories you’ll be telling your grandkids about one day, when you’re 80 years old covered in glitter and you’re still bumping Porter Robinson through your speakers. You’ll meet new people, your body will move in ways you never thought possible, and for the possibly first time in your life you’ll feel free to absolutely let go and let every single aspect of your personality shine, not worrying about people looking at you.

Festivals are the time to be completely true to yourself, and they’re the perfect place to experiment and discover things about yourself that you never knew before. Our minds and bodies are always expanding. We’re evolving and changing everyday, and there are always beautiful goodies and surprises to be found deep within our bones. They say our bodies are temples, but the truth is they’re actually forests. They’re oceans. They’re entire galaxies. They’re more than just a temple. They hold so much power and wonder and excitement. They yearn to explore, and festivals hold limitless opportunities for your body to explore and your mind to expand.

So throw some glitter on your body, a pair of cat ears on your head, shake your ass, and wander around. Check out artists you’ve never heard of. Say and do things you normally would be too shy to say or do. Start conversations with people. Make new friends. Completely let go of all resistance. Let your body move how it wants. Let the music resonate in your soul. Find out first hand what it truly means when people say, “I feel so alive.”

Live under the electric sky.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
