It's in my blood. It's a fire inside me that can't be put out no matter how hard I try (if I even wanted to try). The world is set right when my heart is in it. This is what performing means to me.
I am fully aware
that it is only for the lucky ones, the "one percenters." Being in
the right place at the right time can be all it takes. People ask me
if the 30 dollar train ride, the lost hours of sleep and the
constant rejection is worth it.
The answer is
always a renowned "yes."
It's so simple,
this little three-letter word.
I live with the
constant feeling of connecting with that stage, sort of like a
destiny thing, if you will. The stage and I are supposed to be
one, a relationship others are envious of. Like a beautifully
intertwined couple, we are spouses ready to take a lifetime journey
together. I've just yet to find the right match.
No one ever said
it was going to be easy, choosing to be an actor. You need to be on
top of it at all times if you want to make it. It's basically a part time job if you have the drive to pursue it. Glued to a computer
screen, you are searching and searching (and searching) for the
audition that is going to be yours. You work to get financially
stable in order to invest the money into lessons, head shots and
traveling expenses, with a high percent chance that you may not make back what
you invest. However, if you love what you do, the dollar signs do
not matter.
From there, the
dollar signs turn into passion and the passion turns into
inspiration. This inspiration is what keeps the flame alive,
flickering at the bottom of the cup of coffee you need to stay awake walking to the studio. It is what lets you flip through your
song book, picking a piece that'll blow them away. It is the
confidence you have to keep going and moving forward with your
career.
I've always felt right
performing and I know I always will. The theater is a sanctuary for
my mind, my soul and my dreams. I love what I do, and I love that I
have the opportunity to experience it.
You cannot fight something that is a part of you, so why do it? Embrace the theater and take it for all it is worth. Let your blood flow in the place it is supposed to be, and never stop performing.
I know I never will.
