Golf is a very timeless and classic sport that has greatly influenced my life. Playing golf in high school was one of the best decisions that I made, and I had a blast for all four years. Here are the reasons why you should be playing golf in high school.

The social scene

Being on the golf team is a great way to make friends. By having to walk around 9-18 holes with the same girls on your own team during practice, or girls from other schools during matches, you have about 3-5 hours to bond with the people you are forced tube hanging out with. It's a great way to get to know people that you might not otherwise know, and makes the time commitment more bearable.

More exercise than you would think...

If you choose to walk the golf course carrying your clubs, it actually can help build up your shoulder and back strength. Golf clubs weigh on average 25-30 lbs, and the average distance walked on an 18 hole golf course is a whopping 5-5.5 miles!

...But still on the leisure side

I enjoyed golf so much because I got a mild amount of exercise without having to get all sweaty and be sprinting all the time. Walking and talking is much more my speed than cross country.

Golf is a good sport to play for all ages

Golf is a sport that is great to play until you get very old. Since you can take a golf cart or a caddy, there are ways to make it less physically demanding as you get older. Since not as much running is involved it's easier for older people to be able to participate and keep them moving.

Golf is good to know for your future job

Golf is a great skill to have once you are out in the workforce. So many companies have golf outings and it is very common to have to take clients golfing. It helps to be decently good at golf so you don't embarrass yourself at those kinds of events and it shows employers you can hang in a professional setting.

Stress relief

Being out in the nice fresh air while walking and talking after school can be a great way to unwind before having to go home and get started on your homework.

Scholarship opportunities

Golf is more on the unpopular side of high school and college sports to play. Because of this, it is easier to find some small colleges that will give you the scholarship to be on their golf team, especially for women!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
