Those who know me very well were seemingly shocked when I decided to rush .
I am not the stereotype.
And not to say that all women in sororities area stereotype, but…
I do not wear makeup every day.
I do not carry my books in a Longchamp bag.
I do not own a single article of LuLuLemon clothing.
Most of my closest friends in high school were boys.
My daily attire for class includes leggings, a t-shirt, and most likely crocs.
And none of the things listed above are bad!
They're just not me.
When I rushed I didn't know what was going to happen. I didn't know where I would end up, if anywhere.
But I found my home.
~KAPPA DELTA~
Up until a few days ago, I thought I knew all the reasons I had joined this organization.
Fun social events, incredible philanthropy opportunities, and a group of an extraordinary women.
The third one may seem vague. Well...that's because it is.
Yes, I got to meet so many amazing girls. I have expanded my friend group and my social sphere.
But I recently learned that it's so much more than that.
It's more than frantically texting my ~srat~ group chat desperately seeking shoes to wear to a formal.
It's more than snapchatting my big about her crazy weekend in Morocco while she's studying abroad.
Recently, a member of my pledge class underwent a pretty serious surgery. They had found two tumors and it was an emergency operation. She texted my pledge class group chat explaining her situation and asked for our thoughts and prayers. She expressed her immense anxiety about so many of the possible repercussions from this event.
In seconds, the group chat was flooded with texts from my sisters sending so much love and support to her.
Usually when I use the word sisters, I use it as such: ~sisters~
But not this time. When I say sisters, I mean sisters.
Within the hour, a group prayer service was planned for the time of her surgery in a chapel at school. Everyone was invited to come.
As I walked into the chapel that afternoon, I was overwhelmed with this immense feeling of love.
Here we were, members of a sorority, but so much more than that, united in praying for peace and recovery.
Leaving the prayer service, I realized that this is my why.
This is why I joined this organization.
This is why I went Kappa Delta.
Thankfully the surgery was a success and this lovely lady is on the road to recovery.
I joined a sorority because of the bonds made and the love and support given to me every day by my sisters.
