Everywhere you go, you can see women and girls, young and old, wearing makeup. Although it is very common and part of most women's morning routine, I've never been a consistent makeup wearer. Here are some of the reasons I choose a relatively makeup free life.
1. It’s Low Maintenance

Makeup is way too high maintenance! You have to take time to put it on in the morning, fix it up during the day, and take it off at night. That can end up taking at least an hour altogether! That’s an hour I’d rather spend sleeping.
2. It’s Convenient

Without makeup, I can feel free to rub my eyes or touch my face whenever I want without consequences. I never realize how often I do until I’m wearing makeup and accidentally mess it up. Then I have to go through the trouble of making it look good again. It’s easier when there’s nothing to mess up or fix.
3. It’s Less Mess

I get sweaty really easily, so my makeup would start running almost immediately. I would have to fix it all the time, or just take it all off. It always confuses me when I see people wearing makeup at places where it’s inevitably gonna get messed up: the pool, the gym, and even marching band practice. Why not skip the makeup and skip the mess?
4. It’s Free

Do you know how much women spend on makeup? According to a survey of 2,000 women by Groupon at the beginning of last summer, makeup enthusiasts spend an average of $313 dollars a month. By not wearing makeup, I save almost $4,000 a year! You may think that's unrealistic, but I know people who care so much about makeup that they would spend that much money if they had it.
5. It’s Natural

Like all people, I have flaws. I get blemishes on my face that I'm compelled to cover up. But I don't feel the need to cover up my whole face. I like my natural lip color, my naturally rosy cheeks, and my naturally long lashes. I don't like the feeling of a pound of makeup on my face that covers up my natural beauty. People spend so much time cultivating a “natural” makeup look, when they can just go bare-faced and actually be natural.
It's not that I never wear makeup, but I save it for special occasions. I would rather people be surprised when I wear makeup than be surprised when I don't. I wouldn't rule out wearing makeup in the future, as I get older. I don't intend on giving into all the anti-aging gimmicks, but I'm not opposed to enhancing my features as they start to fade. For now, I'm not one of those people who won't leave the house "without my face on."
