I Don't Celebrate My Birthday Because It's Just Another Day

It is just another day.

I Don't Celebrate My Birthday Because It's Just Another Day

With my birthday coming up this week, so many people are asking me how I plan on spending my birthday. What my plans are for this special day. My response is really quite simple- absolutely nothing.

That's right, I do not plan on doing anything special for my birthday because, in my opinion, it is just another day.

I have not planned anything special for my birthday in probably about 7 years. It started when I was way younger. Since my birthday falls during the summer, right before school usually starts for most places, parents are trying to get in any last minute family vacation that they can. In a lot of cases, my friends' vacations always seemed to fall around my birthday. So eventually, I just stopped planning anything for my birthday all together.

It's not because I don't enjoy spending time with my friends and family, because I do. It just never seems to work out during the summer. Another thing is the fact that I do not understand making such a big deal out of a day.

I hate when people make a big deal out of me because it just makes me uncomfortable. I just don't get it. Nobody in my house makes a big deal out of their birthdays. Like yes, it is special because it was the day that you were brought into this world, but that is really it. There are no big birthday celebrations at my house.

So to those who think I am weird for not celebrating my birthday, you probably are. But maybe I think you're weird for celebrating yours. (I really don't). Just let me do me and I'll let you do you. So keep celebrating your birthday all you want, and I will continue to not celebrate.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
