Why I Decided to Graduate Early

Why I Decided to Graduate Early

You have finally graduated high school and college is just around the corner! You cannot wait to meet new people, go to amazing parties, live in a dorm, rush, and so much more. It is such an exciting and liberating time, being a first semester freshman. But as first semester goes on, you begin to wonder if college is where you want to be for the next four years.

These were my exact thoughts freshman year, and still are today. I felt as though time was going so slow and I could be doing so much more. That is why I have decided to graduate a year early.

I want to live in an apartment in the city.

What I am most excited about after graduation is being able to look at nice apartments in a city. Even though they won't be on the Upper East Side, I hope to find a comfortable one in a great city. Living in a college apartment or house just isn't the same as living in a big city. Even though you might still need a roommate to help with the bills, I just cannot wait!

I cannot wait to start a career.

The entire purpose of going to a university is achieving a degree and landing the dream job you have always wanted. I hope, as a result of my time at college, I can score that perfect career!

I am saving myself, and my parents, a ton of money.

College is expensive. Easy as that. But, because I will be graduating early, I am able to save for a trip to Europe, music festival tickets, or a nice gift for my parents -- whatever it may be!

I free up a whole year for an internship.

With the extra time, I will be able to research and find the most perfect internship for myself and my degree. I find this being the most beneficial aspect of graduating early because it gives you the most hands on and real-life situations that one needs in their career.

Life opens up!

I no longer have to schedule classes, get up at 7:30 for an 8 a.m., stalk my professor on RateMyProfessor -- none of that! Even though I have more responsibility because of my internship or career, I also have more time. I don't have to wait for a break to go on vacation; I can go, whenever!

Even though it seems crazy to many college students, I am very excited to graduate! My time at my university has created some of the best memories, but I cannot wait to make more out in the big city, in my apartment, with all new friends!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
