If the LGBT+ community would not have to gain the rights that are supposedly already given to them, then there would be no "LGBT+ Pride Day." There would be no day, month or groups dedicated to this community. The reason being is they would have nothing to fight for, because they wouldn't get persecuted over their given rights.
This is why these communities exist. To fight against the persecution, hate and all of these negative setbacks that keep them from doing what they want to do — love in their own way.
Now, a new hashtag has surfaced that mocks this fight. #HeterosexualPrideDay and "Straight Pride Day" in general should not exist. Yes, the LGBT+ community gets a day, a month, whatever you want to think they get dedicated to them, but for a reason.
Straight people have existed since the beginning of time, and no one has ever been made fun of, abused or hated because they were in love with the opposite sex. Straight couples are not associated with offensive stereotypes. Straight people don't have anything to fight for, so why should they get their own hashtag or pride day? Because they are heterosexuals who don't get hate? Get over yourselves.
I am a straight person who believes that this issue over having a straight pride day should not even be an issue. It should not have to be discussed because it makes absolutely no sense. Yes, it may seem like the LGBT+ community is receiving so much attention and praise for their parades and strength to "come out," but what people need to understand is that they are not doing this just because they want to. They are doing this because they need to in order for the hate and persecution to cease.
They are asking for awareness, not attention.
Now, do not think that I am harassing straight people. Like I said before, I am also straight, so why would I want to oppress myself? For the people who believe that #HeterosexualPrideDay should be a thing, however, I stand against you. You don't have any reasons to host a day for yourselves because you do not have to live your lives being harassed simply for loving someone.
The LGBT+ community goes through these unnecessary abuses every day, and I praise them for continuing to be so strong.
