Why Having Year Round Allergies Is The Worst

All the cons about having yearly colds

I’ve dealt with multiple problems with my allergies that basically seem to be year round. At least twice during the year I’ll probably develop two colds that may turn into sinus infections and have a cough that may last about three months. I also will deal with the usual run-of-the-mill runny nose and sneezing. I cannot tell you how many medications I’ve had for sinus infections or coughs or how many doctor visits I’ve been on (three just for allergies that caused a bad cough this summer). I also want to apologize to anyone I've gotten sick from my allergies over the past few years or the nuisance I’ve been to classmates from coughing too much, particularly in high school. I hate having to deal with allergies year-round but I’m sure a lot of people do also and will agree with me also. So here’s my four reasons on why it really sucks to have allergies all the time.

1. The coughing

I hate coughing with a vengeance (and sometimes I will cough with a vengeance just ask my family!) I hate the noise and the force that I feel in my body when I cough. I always feel like I annoy people with the coughing all the time. I have done everything from cough syrups to steroids to help lessen it. I’ll be in public and hear someone coughing violently and my heart goes out to them because I know what it feels like. Coughing is horrible and the only cure it seems is to let it happen, and it will lessen with time.

2. Mucus

Everybody hates mucus, it’s kind of a common fact of human life. It’s disgusting, it’s gross and did I mention it’s gross? I especially hate it when I have a runny nose or when I’m coughing it up. I found that taking allergy pills and using a nose spray really works. It’s horrible but will make it go away in even less time hopefully than a cough!

3. The constant medication

I know that taking medicine will help to get rid of allergies but having to take three or four medicines specific for allergies every morning can get annoying. I take cough syrups, antibiotics, cough drops, allergy pills, etc. Basically you name it, I've probably tried it. But, it is a relief once you start to feel just a tiny bit better. Keep on trucking through that medication because you will feel a million times better later.

4. A stuffy nose

The amazing mucus that blocks up your nose and makes it harder to breath. I have a bad habit of not blowing my nose and just end up wiping at my nose until it’s irritated. I highly recommend blowing your nose or doing the even grosser thing of using a Neti-Pot because it works. A humidifier or nasal spray should also help the fellow community of nose blockers out there.

So, don’t be like me and be sick for the past two months with allergies and a horrible cough because you didn’t take allergy pills during the school year. Allergies suck. It’s a part of life that even people with less extensive year-round allergies have to deal with also. So you continue to suffer from horrible allergies, binge-watch Netflix and take medicine because there will be a brief period where they will go away. If anyone reading this is dealing with bad allergies I wish you a speedy recovery!

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
