1. Compliments

If there is one thing I have learned since I’ve grown my mustache, it’s that I get a lot of compliments with it. People are always like “Bro, I love your mustache” “Your mustache looks great” and “Nice mustache”. It is one thing, among many, that makes my day. Seriously, if you see someone with a handlebar mustache or equivalent, tell them it looks good. We do it so it looks good, because we want to look good. When it is complimented, it helps our self-confidence. Confidence feels good, especially when it is for something that takes so much time and energy to achieve.

2. Manhood

Throughout the years, a mustache has been a sign of masculinity and manhood. Now, I’m not saying that someone who cannot grow a mustache isn’t manly or masculine at all, but having one makes you feel more masculine. There is a certain empowerment to having a mustache.

3. Costumes

One of the other great advantages to having a mustache is the ability to dress perfectly for Halloween. With a handlebar mustache, so many different personas can be accomplished. Being a 1920s strongman or a 1930s cartoon villain will be one of the easiest costumes to do. Dressing up as Wyatt Earp, Theodore Roosevelt, Ron Swanson, or Magnum will bring a new type of pride to the one who bears the costume.

4. Discipline

Growing and upholding mustache is hard work. Every day, applying wax, combing it, caring for it. It can get tough, but it is so worth it. A mustache takes a lot of responsibility. Growing a mustache takes a certain amount of patience that not everybody has. It takes a certain amount of finesse to accomplish the perfect mustache. Growing a mustache takes discipline, and therefore teaches discipline. It also teaches detail orientation, organization, and creativity.

5. The Culture

Having a mustache is like being part of a culture. Those who have them know the struggles, the ups, the downs, and everything that comes to having a mustache. Those who have taken the time and given the patience to grow one, know that when they see another man with a mustache, there is a connection. It is a way to connect with others who share an interest. Having a mustache is like nothing else.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
