10 Reasons Why Having An International Best Friend Is The Greatest
Sarah Sistrunk

Three years ago I found out we had a new international student in my junior class at my high school. What I didn't know was that this new girl from Norway was going to become my best friend. Here are 10 reasons why having an international best friend is better than having a regular best friend!

1) You get to tell everyone that your best friend is from Norway (Or wherever your best friend is from) and it's the coolest thing ever!

2) You get to be their personal dictionary and reference to all things English and our weird sayings. This is super fun because you realize how hard it is to describe words you know but can't explain what they mean.

3) You just except the fact that you will never learn launguage, but you still think you are so cool when they teach how to say a few phrases.

4) You are used it when they answer the phone and just start speaking their native language. But you will always laugh when they accidentally start speaking to you in their language, or mix up their English.

5) Whenever you see anything related to their homeland you freak out... Cause your best friend is from there!! And if you see a tweet or pic about their country of origin, of course you have to show them and tell them to take you there!

6) THEY ACTAULLY TAKE YOU TO THEIR HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7) They get you into the fast pass lane at Epcot at Disney because they are from the the "country" you are in! (If you didn't know this, you're welcome)

8) You love their country because that's where your best friend is from, like in the opening ceremony of the olympics... You totally cheered for them.

9) You ask them if they have this or that in their country. And if this is the same in their country as it is in America. You litterally ask them so many questions, often dumb questions. You learn all you can about their country and think it's so cool that they grew up somewhere diffrent from you!

10) You are so overwhelmed with the fact that God sent you a best friend from some other country and it amazes you that in this huge world somehow the two of you found each other. It makes it so much more special to have an international best friend because so much had to happen for the two of you to even met, let alone become bffs! You know God definitely was at work when He brought y'all together.

And I for one am unbelievably thankful that somehow I found my best friend who came into my life all the way from Norway!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
