Having a pet is arguably the greatest feeling in the world. Having a dog, in my opinion, is that much better. Though your dog may constantly need to be walked, will sometimes have accidents, and always need to be fed, they’re not that bad.
In fact, although my rat-dog is one of the ugliest creatures on the planet, I’m not sure what I would do without him. I’m not sure what anyone would do without a dog, honestly. Though dogs could be high-maintenance, they are a blessing in disguise.
Dogs are always welcoming.
If you’ve had a rough day and need a friend, your dog is there. The minute you unlock your door, your dog is sitting there, tail wagging, beyond excited that its owner is finally home. Dogs have no sense of time, once you leave they have no idea how long you’ve been gone. However, one thing is constant, they’re always waiting to greet you.
Dogs are man’s best friend.
If you’ve had the roughest day in the world and had a problem with your friends, your dog is your best friend. They curl up next to you, and sympathize, even if they can’t actually talk. They don’t argue with you and don’t judge you -- the perfect companion.
Dogs are easily pleased.
Unlike friends, dogs don’t require much to be pleased. Say what you want to them, and it’s always the same reaction: a tail wag and a droopy tongue. I can call him just about everything, and his reaction is always the same. A simple belly rub or a treat sends them into euphoria, at least that’s the case with my bozo.
Dogs are loyal companions.
Your dog is your dog. It loves you, unconditionally. Though our family dog is technically my sister's, every time I come home from school he goes wild. He knows the person who walks him and plays with him for hours a day, is finally back. Regardless of how long you’ve been gone, they know exactly who you are the minute you come back. It’s like catching up with an old friend -- except the old friend doesn’t speak and, instead, recognizes your scent.
Dogs will always be your friend.
Friends come and go, but dogs are forever. We’ve all cycled through groups of friends, but coming home each day, you know your dog is always there. Even in the toughest of times when you think have no one, you always have someone. They just get you, and I personally think they sense when you’re down. That’s why I love dogs, they’re the perfect pick-me-up.
Regardless of the reason you may have a dog, they are beyond a blessing. All my life I have been fortunate to have a dog, and I know that will never change. Seeing as it is still the holidays, ‘tis the season to have your very own pet. Whether you buy a purebred, adopt a dog from a PetSmart, or rescue a dog from a pound, you can’t go wrong with having man’s best friend by your side.
