Close families for the win!

Because when you have a close knit family, not only do you have therapists, comedians, and role models, you have some of the greatest friends and people you'll ever need.

1. You always have someone on your side.

Whether you're right or wrong, there's at least one family member who will agree with you and be on your side no matter what.

2. They're completely, utterly, brutally honest, but you wouldn't have it any other way.

I mean, who else is going to tell you that your hair looks like a wreck, that the dress you love actually doesn't look that flattering on you, or that you're being a little over dramatic. You can count on your family to give you a slap in the face (literally or metaphorically) to bring you back to reality.

3. Family vacations are one giant party.

The fun never ends, and the booze never stops flowing. Let's just say it's basically like a super wild college party only your little cousins and grandparents are invited.

4. You have someone on call to talk to all the time.

Whether it's your mom, dad, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin, grandparents, etc. there is and always will be someone (multiple people for that matter) to go to when you're having a problem. They're basically like built in therapists only better.

5. They're your biggest fans.

It doesn't matter if you scored a goal, wrote a poem, or merely just passed a test; they're proud of you for everything you do, which is pretty amazing.

6. They welcome in your significant other/friends with open arms.

Trust your family; if they love your boyfriend/girlfriend and friends almost as much as they love you then you're golden.

7. They know exactly how to cheer you up.

Family just seems to know the exact way to make you smile the exact moment you need it.

8. There are no secrets.

You tell them exactly what's on your mind, what you're feeling, and they do the same thing for you. If they're being annoying, you can tell them. If you're being a pain, they will also make that very clear.

9. They've seen you at your absolute worst and still love you.

I mean braces, awkward stage, annoying/over-dramatic teenager, horrible haircut worst. We all know exactly what I'm talking about...and they're some great people for sticking through it all.

10. You've been through a lot together, making you all closer than ever.

Through hardships, celebrations, losing teeth, learning to ride a bike, and everything in between. Your family has experienced a lot making your bond stronger every day.

11. You have a lot of really great friends for life.

Family is always there for you when you need them. They don't judge you, they don't forget about you, and they love you unconditionally. When you have a family like that, you have it made.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
