Growing up in the Washington D.C. area I had a lot of friends come and go. I was never really sure when my friends were going to leave and where they would end up. Having friends come and go could be difficult at times but it also taught me a lot about friendships and finding the benefits they could offer!

Pro: They are able to give you objective advice

Having friends that understand what you are going through and can be there with you every step of the way is essential. However, it can be just as helpful to have someone who is not in the situation give you advice. They typically are not swayed by other opinions and are able to give you honest, unbiased advice.

Con: They aren't there to give you a hug

Sometimes you just really need a hug from your best friend. When you're sad or just missing them it can be difficult. While Skype and Facetime are helpful for staying in contact and up to date with their lives, it is never a substitute for a good hug.

Pro: You have cool places to visit

Having friends living in different places means that you have a million places to vacation without having to pay for a hotel. I recently spent three weeks visiting my friend in Australia and had the time of my life. While it sucks having her live so far away, there is an obvious plus side!

Con: Saying goodbye is the worst

There is nothing worse than saying goodbye to your best friend. Not to be dramatic but it is like having a piece of your heart ripped out. When my friend dropped me off at the airport after our last trip I could not stop crying.

Pro: When you see each other again its like no time has passed

After all of the time spent apart, there is nothing quite like being together again. You have so much to talk about and catch up on. All you want to do is jump up and down and scream out of excitement. Even if the visit is short, any time spent together is amazing!

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. 11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
