The older I get, the more I realize how much I hate my generation. Thinking that our generation will eventually be the ones in charge of our country honestly scares me. Our generation is completely different than our parents' and also our grandparents'. We have completely different "values" and a strong connection to technology, but this isn't me. I hate my generation because they don't hold the same values as those generations before us.
Communication Issues
Our generation lacks communication. If we communicate, it's behind a screen. Even when we are with our friends or family, we are so vague or on our phones the entire time. Next time you're in public, watch and listen to other people's conversations.
Values
I'm sorry, but I think our generation needs serious help in this department. Our generation is obsessed with looks, partying, weight, and skimpy clothing. I guess I'm old fashioned when it comes to these things. When it comes to looks, our generation relies on a face to be completely covered in make up. Everyone falls for the false beauty that makeup portrays. I'm okay with a little bit of eye liner and mascara, but if I have acne, I'll let it show. Looking natural is better than having to paint your face on everyday. Next up, weight. Our generation is obsessed with having an absolute pencil skinny looking body. What is that about? If you got curves girls, let them show! Look back at other generations, yes there are skinny girls, but having meat on your bones was sexy too. Clothes, OMG, clothes. What is the deal with having to wear crop tops every where we go? How about we wear just wear a nice blouse and shorts that your booty isn't hanging out of? Girls, you can find a man with out having your chest, belly, and butt cheeks out. Try it sometime.
Love
Everyone loves a good love story. In our generation, it is impossible to find "the one" with the way we love. Now, we rarely actually meet people in person and ask each other out. We now find each other on Tinder, Twitter, Facebook and dating sites. What ever happened to accidentally running into someone and asking each other out? Come on. Remember when that was a thing? We live in a generation when we have an argument with someone we love, we don't fix it. We just throw it away and search for new. Our generation doesn't take anything seriously. We don't date anymore to find the one we're suppose to be with. Instead we date to fulfill our needs then move on. Talk to your grandparents and ask them why they have lasted so long. Most likely their answer will be, "We born in a time when something was broken, we'd fix it. Not throw it away."
Social Media
I'm so tired of social media. Social media has shaped our generation, that is for sure. If we didn't have so much technology and social media, I think our generation would be better off. We would be outside more, have better conversations, and have better time management. Social media changes people. It changes the way we communicate. Our generation is constantly on social media. We constantly communicate online, but in person we act like the other person doesn't exist. Social media creates an online personality that is different from who they really are. Social media is an outlet that can ruin friendships, relationships or even create bullying situations. Why does our generation insist on using it?
At the end of day, our generation pretends to be someone they are not in order to fit in. What happened to going on walks or lying in the lawn and talking about our feelings, wearing clothes that didn't make us look easy, having relationships that last and fixing something that is broken instead of throwing it away?
Call me old fashioned, but I like the little things over of the material ones. I hate my generation. I wish I grew up in the one of my parents or grandparents. When important things mattered.
