Why Halloween is My Favorite Holiday

The best time of the year is here.

Why Halloween is My Favorite Holiday

It's that time again and I couldn't be more thrilled. Of course Christmas and Thanksgiving are feel good holidays that let you spend time with family and friends, but Halloween gives me a completely different feeling. If you're uncanny like me and think you love Halloween just as much...than you understand my reasoning behind being totally obsessed with All Hallows Eve. Here are just a few things to justify my fixation:

Spooky movies

My October nights are consumed with poorly made scary movies and Disney films galore. Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, Under Wraps etc., these movies give me life, no matter how many times I re-run them.

Decorations

Covering the house in artificial spider webs and unrealistically large spiders was both the best and worst park about Halloween, however; the aftermath definitely made it worth it. While the inside of the house is always filled with black, orange and anything spooky.

Costumes

Watching your costume come together after days or weeks of planning is such a satisfying feeling. Right after Halloween I think of what I will be the following year, it's a cycle really.

Candy

Candy corn, chocolates, gummies; oh my! This night...month to come is an excuse in itself to absolutely devour some Halloween candy. I mean you can't let all of that leftover trick or treat candy go to waste...that's a crime.

Trick or treating

Even if you're too old too partake, half of the fun is watching how many Elsa's arrive at your doorstep or the ridiculously cute costumes parents come up with.

Halloween parties

Hopefully the parties you've been too haven't been as awkward as the one in Mean Girls. If they have been, it's not a big deal because in college Halloween is pretty much a week event, so get ready to have multiple costumes on deck and ready to go. Halloween parties include most of the things mentioned above and that's why they are so awesome.

Pumpkin carving

Even though this years new fad is painting pumpkins and carving pineapples, you can't beat old fashioned pumpkin carving.

Pillsbury sugar cookies

The best part about these is you don't have to cook them...am I right, or am I right?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
