Why Growing Up With Brothers Is The Biggest Blessing

Looking back on all the years I spent running around and playing with my brothers, I didn’t realize how big of an impact they were making on me. I really did have the “best of both worlds” because my mom always spoiled me with her time so we went shopping, spa days and watching chick flicks, but my brothers always had a way of alluring me into every tackle football game, paintball wars and adventures into woods. I’ve forgotten to thank my two favorite guys for being the highlight of my childhood. Here’s why growing up with brothers was my greatest blessing:

  1. First off, my parents couldn’t tell me exactly that I was the favorite child, but my dad still says, “you’re my favorite daughter!” Growing up with a majority of boys, you’re dad’s number one girl and you always get one-on-one time with your mom because the boys don’t want to tag along to a full day of girl talk and shopping. It doesn’t get much better than that.
  2. I know how to keep up with the boys—my brothers can attest to that. Whether it’s sports or the everyday lifestyle, I was always involved and proved that it didn’t matter that I’m a girl, I can probably do it better than you anyways. I became a great athlete because I followed in my brothers’ steps and knew I wanted to dominate on the courts and field too. A couple bumps, bruises and nose bleeds from living the typical boy’s lifestyle were nothing I couldn’t handle.
  3. Brothers may give you a hard time and you may not always see eye to eye, but nobody has your back like your brother does. He’s your silent protector, and when someone hurts you, you can bet you’re not going into the battle alone. When you have brothers, you’re never really alone and you never have to go through tough times without someone who is there for you. One minute, you could be fighting about God knows what, but the second you need them to be on your side, they’re on your team without hesitation.
  4. They keep the jerks away. It’s like brothers are jerk repellent because a guy most likely isn’t going to play you dirty if he knows you have a brother that always has your back. The pigs and players don’t want a girl with brothers because that can only end messily.
  5. When your brother gets a girlfriend, fiance or wife, they are like the sister you’ve always wanted. I think it’s a blessing that my brothers grew up with me too because they got to see how girls are in their natural habitat their whole life, so they have learned how to treat and respect their girlfriend or future wife. They’re my greatest blessing because they’ve taught me how to be understanding and patient; guys move at their own pace and mindset, and I’m glad I learned that early on.
  6. Growing up with brothers meant it was always you guys against Mom and Dad. If our ship was sinking, we were going down as a crew. We out numbered them, so we knew they couldn’t ground all of us. When I got in trouble, one of us always came up with a witty remark and somehow, I always got out of it, thanks to Danny and Brandon.

I hold the memories with my brothers so dear to my heart. Even as we grow up and move into our own lives, not a day goes by that I’m not thankful for all the adventures and traumas that went along with being a sister to two brothers. Words can’t truly express my gratitude for the childhood I endured because it has made me into the strong, independent woman I am today.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
