College may as well be the first time you are seen as an "adult", in the modern world. "Adult" is in quotations because, let's face it, we still call ma and pa on the weekends when we need a little parental sponsorship for the weekly groceries or for that mani/pedi combo you forgot to save for. But in reality, you are wonderfully independent. Off on your own for the first time, exploring all of these new responsibilities. Is this not the perfect time to make the best change you can make for the people around you, the economy around you, the environment around you, and yourself?
You should go vegan. That's right, I said it. Cut out all animal products and see what it can do for you.
So let's get down to the gist of it. It's really an easy decision if you ask me (no bias of course). Obviously, the first step would be to identify the real reason you would want to make this absolutely beautiful decision. Because you care about animals? Yes. Because you want your kids to be able to see a polar bear at the zoo in the next few decades? Yes. And because eating all the fruit and vegetables you want, while basically being the happiest you have ever been? Ugh, sign me up. (No worries, I'm actually already signed up lol).
Listen to this (super-amazing-awesome-ego boosting) fun fact: In one year, being vegan will save the Earth over 400,000 gallons of water. Now, I'm nowhere close to being a math major but based off of the fact that I did happen to go through grade school, all of those zeroes can tell me that that is A LOT of H2O. Just think of all of those happy Finding Nemo-esque fishies enjoying all of the water that you saved them. If that doesn't make you smile, just look at that smiling cow at the top of this article again. You're welcome.
Along with saving a hefty ton of water, in one year, you could save on average 365 animal's lives. And I don't know about y'all, but I love animals. Send me a video of a puppy playing outside in the snow and my heart will literally melt into a million pieces. So knowing that what you are doing every day is prolonging another creature's life? Priceless.
Those are only a few reasons why you should go vegan, but when it all comes down to it, it's up to you. This is a big decision for anyone, and a personal choice. But know that if you do, you will rest easy knowing that the world is a little bit better of a planet because you are on it.
