When I first came to Penn State, I was terrified of having to make friends all over again.
It didn't help that nobody from my area ever went to Penn State or that people from home sometimes would confuse it with the ivy league school (not that I'm necessarily complaining). I knew that it was going to be difficult, but I wanted to embrace the challenge. I thought Greek life was going to be a way to make quick and easy friends, but little did I know that it would become so much more than that.
Greek life has been the perfect way for me to not only make Penn State feel so much smaller, but it's made Penn State feel like home. A lot of people have preconceived notions that girls can be pretentious or just love to party, but I'm here to tell you that's not true.
We are more than just a stereotype.
It's given me the support system I was always looking for in college and sisters that always have my back. I never knew these people would have such a large impact on my life and are constantly helping me grow to become the person I strive to be one day.
My sisters have shown me that it's okay to be myself and have taught me to live my life with confidence. The relationships I have made within Greek life are priceless and invaluable. I simply couldn't imagine what my life would be without these amazing people who have become my lifelong friends.
College so far has proven to be one hell of a ride, and I know there's way more to come. Naturally, more obstacles and adventures are bound to be thrown my way, but I can't wait to experience it with my sisters. So for those who just joined Greek life, treasure your time because it goes by fast.
For those who may still be skeptical about the process, have an open mind because you'll meet the most amazing people along the way and you won't regret it.
