Why Go Organic

An article on why organic products are a great choice

Why Go Organic

A lot of mothers are very particular when they are choosing products such as baby wash, shampoo, lotion, laundry detergent, diapers, and even dish soap. Some mothers have a budget they're keen to keep, other mothers are all about name brands, and some mothers favor organic products. There can be big differences between organic products and non-organic products, or none at all.

A great reason to buy organic products is if the chemicals in other products make your baby sick or irritates their skin. My son would spit up and become gassy if I washed his bottle with scented and dyed dish soap. I switched over to a brand that didn't use any dyes or scents, but it was not organic. The downside of organic products is they can be very expensive, so if you're looking for a solution that doesn't break the bank, try different products without certain ingredients and see what works best. But organic products are known for solving most chemical related problems.

Some mothers break the bank for organic and non GMO formulas. This is understandable because non GMO formulas help a baby with digestion and are easier on their sensitive little tummies. Using GMOs basically means that the product has been genetically adjusted. They use GMOs so that the product can have desired features that it normally wouldn't contain. So I think non-GMO or GMO usage depends on if you want to give your baby genetically engineered products. Other reasons mothers choose to use organic food for their children is to avoid growth hormones and other hormones and chemicals that they pump into food to make it cheaper for mass production. Some parents don't want their child eating beef that was from an unnaturally, over-sized cow. Or the vegetables that have had chemicals dumped on them. But these are the products most people have been eating unknowingly their whole lives. That's why some parents don't feed their children organic products. They've been eating food with these chemicals for so long, so they don't see the point in spending extra money over it.

Organic diapers are useful for many reasons. Not only are they great for a baby's sensitive skin, especially newborns, but most organic diapers are biodegradable. Most non-organic diapers are not so they sit around in our land mines. Typically, they take about a hundred years to fully disintegrate. So unless everyone starts to use reusable diapers, everyone should try and find a diaper brand that is biodegradable. Even if it doesn't seem important, it really is, we want our children to grow up on an Earth that can still have trees and forests, not an Earth where we have to knock down trees to make landfills.

One product I will always buy organic for my family is laundry detergent specified for babies. All it does to your clothes is clean them. And that's all doing the laundry is supposed to be. These unscented laundry detergents don't give off headache inducing wafts of overbearing scents. Some people get so caught up in if it smells nice that they forget strong perfumes are not good for your skin. The other nice thing about organic detergent is there aren't any artificial dyes or brighteners. Those chemicals can be very harsh for a baby. Yes, you could always just buy baby-specified brands, but making sure it's organic just takes it one step further.

My overall consensus is that organic products are a safer option for the environment and your family. It might be more expensive, but if you can afford the extra couple of dollars it's well worth it. And the best part is not having to worry about hurting your skin, or eating scary chemicals.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
