When womyn have to exist in the patriarchal society that tells them their body is available for male consumption and pleasure, it gets kind of hard to build self-confidence and speak out to be your best self. Life gets a little easier; however, when you remember you have a sisterhood of womyn behind you, ready to give you a life boost/power-up whenever you need it!
1. Friendships
Complimenting other girls will lead you to a girl-power-love bond. Friends are great!
2. Self-Esteem
It's hard trying to feel like you're fabulous all the time. That's why there should be other people helping you out when you're down.
3. Balance out the gross comments guys can make
When womyn get attacked by males through catcalling and other "compliments" that violate them, genuine compliments are really appreciated as a break from the unfortunate reality we live in.
4. Work your creative juices
In the show Parks and Recreation, Leslie Knope (pictured above) was never afraid to be a creative and inspirational womyn, especially when handing out compliments. You can see a full gif-set of these compliments here!
5. Getting buddies to shut down the patriarchy with you
Why would you tear down misogyny by yourself when you can do it with other fun people?
6. It feels better than being complimented by guys
When girls compliment you, you always know it's real.
7. It's soul-warming
Honestly, just knowing this stuff happens reminds me that there's good in the world.
8. End the normalization of pettiness
I know how fun being petty can be, but it's in the interest of all femme-kind when you're supportive and kind.
9. Spread joy!
I made this happy-ass post because the other day, a black girl with the most beautiful natural hair and purple tips came up to me in the middle of the hallway with a big grin and said, "Dude! I love your hair!" and I excitedly shouted back, "Girl, I love your hair too!" The simple little compliment had me glowing all day! Plus, sharing your stories about girl-love also spreads the trend of how complimenting girls is the best thing ever to just be nice to people.
