The Real Reasons Why Girls Love Hockey Boys

Judge all you want, but I can bet there are more than a few ladies that can agree with me on one universal fact: Hockey boys are the best. If you don't share the same appreciation for this species as we do, I have some reasons that validate this timeless infatuation.

1. Their lingo is almost another language, but oh-so-adorable.

Unless you’re talking about a total bender, hockey language is a definite tool to wheel the ladies. There’s nothing like listening to boy talk about his latest dangle, snipe, celly while he throws in a lip.

2. We love bad boys, and at the end of the game when he’s got cuts, bruises and bad intentions, you can’t help but swoon.

It’s historically proven that good girls love bad boys. I’m not sure if it’s that we want to change them or be a damsel in distress, but watching your man throw punches and slam a guy into the boards is the best, and what’s even better is being the girl in the stands that they’re working that hard to impress. With these boys, you have to remember what you’ve signed up for, so while he’s breaking bones he might just be breaking your heart. But that’s all part of the thrill, right?

3. They know how to fight for you, but never with you.

One of the hottest attributes of a hockey player is how defensive they are of their teammates. They’ll be the first to take the gloves off to teach some plug a lesson if they ever mess with someone they care about, and although the “bad-boy” image is alluring, they’re sincere about their intentions when the time comes.

4. You know you love the post-game attire.

They always look their best coming out of the locker room after a brawl with their suit and tie accompanied by a black eye, fat lip and freshly washed lettuce. If you’re one of the rockets lucky enough to claim one of these roughed up beauties, prepare for some envious glares as you get the perfect Instagram photo of you and your man.

5. Their fun-loving nature that comes from locker room time with the boys makes them the most entertaining.

Hockey boys listen to the best music because their pregame playlists are always hype, they have the best stories with their teammates from roadies and nights out, and they are so funny to watch when they wrestle each other. These guys radiate confidence, so they’re not afraid to be silly.

6. They're the hardest workers, and it shows in more ways than just on the ice.

From being a great time to a great friend, hockey players know what it takes to give everything they have into something. Their love for the game and for their team parallels their effort into all their relationships and endeavors. Yes, they may get a little rowdy, but these guys know discipline and dedication.

As you probably know, hockey players are a different breed. And for those who don’t understand the infatuation behind these guys, I hope these reasons have inspired you to forget your pride and fan-girl over a beauty who can go bar-down.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
